E3? Please, I’m Going to Tokyo

November 30th, 2012 by www.gameconventions.net

Back when I was in college, we had direct2tv.com/ to thank for our television service and our access to game channels like G4. My roommate would always tune into E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) for the latest game coverage.

For me? I always preferred the Tokyo Game Show and here’s why:

1.) You really couldn’t get more cutting edge than the TGS. Since most of the games we play in the United States come from Japan, it gave hardcore gamers a chance to see what was coming a year maybe two years before it eventually washed up on American shores.

2.) The TGS had a great atmosphere and even better service. Unlike the US where video games are more of a hobby or a diversion reserved for the youth, video games are a lifestyle in Japan. You can find video games for literally all ages and it’s no small wonder to stumble upon elderly Japanese playing Mario.

3.) While visiting the TGS, you got a chance to see video games before they were localized. It’s no secret that Japanese culture is quite different from American and everything from emotion to senses of humor to decency are all different. The TGS lets you experience games in their unaltered glory before they are made relevant and edited for American audiences.
